PEP: Treatment After HIV Exposure
Post-exposure prophylaxis against HIV
Action window: 4h ideal, 72h maximum
PEP is a post-exposure prophylaxis against HIV, used following unprotected exposure that presents a risk of contamination.

Absolute urgency
PEP must be taken urgently, ideally within 4 hours following the risky behavior, and in no case beyond 72 hours.
Dosage instructions
It is then taken every day, continuously, for one month.
Treatment duration: 28 consecutive days

PEP limitations
Like PrEP, PEP is not a contraceptive method and does not protect against other STIs. It cannot replace treatment for PLHIV or PrEP.

PEP availability
PEP is available in infectious disease services, emergency services, and occupational medicine in most hospitals.
