How to protect against STIs?

Protecting your sexual health is essential to preserve your well-being and that of your partner.

Use condoms consistently

Male and female condoms are the most effective way to protect against most STIs. Use them correctly for vaginal, oral, or anal sex.

Condoms protection

Regular testing and prompt STI treatment

Testing detects and treats STIs early, reducing transmission, especially when combined with condom use.

Preventive vaccination

Vaccines such as HPV and Hepatitis B offer effective protection. In Tunisia:

  • The Hepatitis B vaccine has been included in the national program since 1995
  • The HPV vaccine was added to the program in 2025 and is also available in pharmacies

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)

PrEP prevents HIV before a risk exposure. It is recommended for people at high risk of exposure to HIV.

PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis)

PEP is an emergency treatment after a potential HIV exposure. It must be started within 72 hours of exposure.
