Mycoses

Mycoses are infections usually caused by fungi, transmitted via sexual contact (oral/vaginal/anal) or intimate touching. Note: vaginal yeast infection (candidiasis) is not always considered an STI.

Clinical features

  • Itching
  • Thick white/curdy discharge
  • Burning
  • Inflammation of the glans

  • Screening: Screening is done by clinical exam and swab.
  • Protection: Condoms and maintaining daily intimate hygiene help reduce risk.
  • Treatment: Treatment is with topical antifungal creams or oral tablets.
